Customs?

So this is my favourite of my sculptures, resin Angry Elf. I'm gonna experiment with some different custom paint jobs over the next few days. Will report back to the ol' blog of course.
Gotta get through an interview first though. Wish me luck!

Animations!

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pMsPfo-KqO8

This is an animation I did as an experiment for school. I was responding to Aardman animations style. Its unbelievably hammy, very silly, but its all good fun. The designs for it are further down the blog.

And this animation is just practicing with the camera. I wanted it to look like my friends limbs were moving weirdly, but completely naturally.

Concept Design.

This is an idea I had aaaages ago. I used some really quick rough water colour paints for this. I will retry it with my pencils. Its basically about 2 insects in love, who are about to meet their doom with the daily gardening. I call it, "Love and Lawnmowers", and I'll show you the final piece once its done.

Creepy friends

I also love to change images to make them sinister. I took a couple of pictures of my friends and painted, sketched and digitally manipulated them. I like how they look like photographs.

This is my best friend, with a vinyl uglydoll. I later went on to make this on a canvas using acrylic paints. This was so popular that my friend had to have it.

Photographs

I took these pictures in response to the photography of Arno Minkennen. I loved his play on reflections, and use of his own body. These have turned out very well, I love the different tones and textures, the reflections along with the shapes of my body look incredible and I couldn't have asked for anything better. These were shot using the timer on a camera, then editted on photoshop.

Head colour ideas

So these are some potential paint jobs I chucked together on Photoshop. I'd change the base colour of the pieces aswell. Smile would have a dirty green colour, with some extra detail, such as wrinkles, a few decorative spots.

And the Grumpy Monkey would be possibly brown, or a dark olive green as fur going around the edges, with a paler skin colour in the middle. As a Grumpy Monkey, he'd need sunken eyes, wrinkles, real skin definition.

Wall mounted heads.

This weekend I made 3 heads, to which I will add to a wall mountable plaque. Im very proud of these. They've turned out well. I think I'll make more individual heads for the same purpose.

They will come with a name engraved at the bottom, like any other objects mounted on a wall.

This is probably my least favourite. Its meant to be a beast, sort of like one of the main aliens in "The Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy". Once painted I am giving it a top hat.

This was the first I made. I was just watching TV and was playing around with the clay, and I came up with this. My parents keep calling it "The Grumpy Monkey" Even though it wasnt meant to be a monkey, the name has stuck. I think this has a lot of character.

I love this. The teeth are so effective and this looks really creepy. This is the first time I've ever used marbles as eyes, which are brilliant for making the glossy, smooth shape of an eye, but it also give it structure and something to work around. I call this "Smile"

They will all be presented in a similar version to this: A fish plaque I made for my brothers birthday.

This is my elf in a dress, one of my favourite sculptures, next to a kitten which was given away as a present. Most of my sculpture work nowadays is made in Super Sculpey, as seen in the background. A closer picture of him is further down the blog.

Again, the 2 characters together, with a baby in the background. I make anything..

And this is a bit of a sinister spin with the baby.. Creepy. Im hoping to have this guy, head and hands jumping out of a jack in a box on springs. Working progress.

Random Illustrations

Some of these aren't in good condition, because they've been in the middle of the traffic jam that is my house.. But they're just random things that have come into my head.

Portraits

Over the last year I've made a lot of portraits of myself and some of the people I know. These ones were made using my 10 colouring pencils.

This is me, drawn on an aeroplane. I was really into Tim Burtons drawing style at the time, so it turned out quite creepy.

I always try and use a variety of colours, even ones that wouldnt obviously work. I think this makes great tone and shading, and you get a more varied and interesting picture.

This is another one of me, using all the colours in my set, its quite stylised.

This is based on one of my old teachers. She's a lovely woman, but her face lends itself so perfectly for a sinister portrait. She'll never know..

Me.

This is me when I was 12. I used to love collecting things, and that sparked my sculpture work. I went to an event for Pocket Dragons, a popular brand by collectable world, where I met the creator, Real Musgrave. I made him my own version of my favourite figure of his, and since then we've sent eachother letters, he's inspired my work and I have a great friend in him.

In my A2 Art course, I made some portraits of myself, using photoshop.

So this is me.

Pokemon

When I was growing up, I loved Pokémon. The idea of having loads of monsters, creepy or cute, running around, and being friends with them completely captivated me. So I decided to make a creepier version of the main characters, Ash and Pikachu. I started off with just a simple drawing of Ash, who's a young boy. This was a black and white, 2B pencil sketch.

Then I drew a monster wearing Pikachu ears on a separate page. Then I put the two together using Adobe Photoshop.

I then coloured in Ash with photoshop. Generally using brushes and the dodge and burn tools. I love how this has turned out.

I then started roughing out how I wanted 'Pikachu' to look

And put the two together.

Added a background, and turned it into this! Very proud of Ash, Pikachu still needs some work, but its a working progress.

Sketches of Characters

I've also decided to make my own versions of some of my favourite cartoon characters, and draw them in a certain style. All these were made with my normal coloured pencils

First came the Joker from Batman, this is just the details of his head infront of a big J.

Next is Skeletor from He-Man. I just love this characters design, very grim reapery. He's infront of a large S.

And Magneto from X men. I had a lot of fun thinking up how to do this. He's essentially an old man in a hat, but I decided to just put the eyes in to make him more sinister looking. And you guessed it, he's infront of an M.

Finally comes good ol' Spongebob Squarepants. A childhood favourite. Colours on this are so vivid.

Special events

I always make my own presents and cards for people.

This is fathers day 2011, done with normal pencils, he loved that, mum, not so much.

And this was my dads birthday, just a straight portrait, again with normal colouring pencils.

Baby Sitting Ad

Well times have been hard. I needed the money so I decided to make an advert and try out babysitting. I wanted something a bit funnier than just "Hi I'm lovely" so I'd stand out. And it worked! So this is the picture I drew for the sign.
